Whether you call us for information on our behavioral services or find us through the web, you will have two choices on how to
begin once you decide to proceed with private consulting:
A. We will direct you to a web page where you can fill out a “Behavioral History Questionnaire”. This questionnaire takes about 40
minutes to fill out. It will ask you questions about your pet’s history with your family, his daily routines, your relationship with your
pet, the issue that has led you to behavior modification counseling, specifics about this issue, what you’ve done to try to address
the issue, etc. OR
B. If your access to the Internet is limited or you prefer to meet face-to-face to explain the issue, you can go ahead and set up an
appointment with us and we will fill out the Behavioral History Questionnaire at our first appointment with you.
Most people like the first option, and so do we. It often gives the client time to think about the behavior and they often report that
they felt better prepared to explain the problem at the initial meeting because they’d had some time to observe and reflect on the
behavior. It also gives us the opportunity to read over your questionnaire and note areas where we'd like to gather further
information. We will still conduct a preliminary interview in our first face-to-face session, but we will have the answers to some of
the questions we would have had to ask already answered right in front of us. In the end, this saves us time and you money.
To contact Repertoire via phone, dial 414-254-2059, send email inquiries to solutions@repertoiretraining.com, or visit our
Contact Us page to send a question or request through webmail.
Prior to the first face-to-face session, Repertoire may recommend that a veterinary exam be conducted to help us
determine if the problem is based on any medical cause or has any medical repercussions.
At some point you will feel comfortable enough with the situation where you no longer require consulting services. Repertoire would like to be available to you to provide support for you beyond whatever contract arrangements we may have had. Repertoire offers you the option of remaining in our email and home address database so we can keep you up-to-date with regards to further offers and services we provide. We may ask you via email or postal service to participate in feedback questionnaires regarding our service and your experiences with Repertoire. But, most importantly, we don’t want to leave you hanging as a customer. We want to continue to provide support for the behavioral issue that you brought to us and we want to track your success. So, if it’s agreeable to you, we’ll make a follow-up plan so we can check in with each other periodically.

STEP I. SETTING UP THE BEHAVIORAL CONSULT
|
STEP II. THE FIRST FACE-TO-FACE SESSION
|
If you have filled out the questionnaire we will highlight areas of the form that we would like to discuss further. The intake consult is
an opportunity for you to expound on things you wanted to tell us but were not able to write. Often we ask for more specifics
regarding issues of when, where, under what circumstances, and how often a particular behavior is occurring. The initial session
gives us the opportunity to observe your pet. (Though sometimes the behavior is not observable in a session, or it is a behavioral
problem that is not necessary to be observed.) Many times we can gather useful information from these observations and get a
good sense of his overall temperament, his response to the dynamic in the home, and his reactions to strangers. The goal of the
Behavioral History Questionnaire and initial interview is to help us evaluate your pet's behavioral issue and begin to formulate an
idea of what is motivating his behavior and what needs to be done to modify the behavior. Before we leave the first session we will
often give you some suggestions for managing the issue between that time and the time of our next session. We may give you and
your family some general guidelines that we’d like you to observe, you may be shown a specific exercise or protocol to follow, we
may recommend that you to read a specific bit of information on a particular issue before our next session. You will be asked your
goals with regard to what you want from behavior modification counseling... in other words, what would you like to see as an
outcome of this program? We’ll then discuss what Repertoire thinks it can do in terms of helping you reach those goals. You will
have the option to go with individual sessions or to purchase a package of four sessions with us. Those prices are listed on our
Prices & Availability page, but we’ll go over that again with you and what the benefits are to both options.

STEP III. THE BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PLAN
|
Repertoire Animal Training & Behavior will then sit down and develop a customized behavior modification plan for you. These
plans often include some sort of structured training agenda or protocol that we will ask you to implement. This will be entirely
based on your pet’s specific needs. It may include management techniques or changes to your pet’s environment or changes in
the family’s routine. Often these are simple things that will help your dog or cat be successful in his learning process. When an
animal is allowed to practice a behavior, that behavior often becomes more ingrained. So for example, a dog who is reactive to the
mailman may require something restricting his access to a certain window until he is able to learn a more appropriate response
through training and counter-conditioning. Repertoire may also recommend specific training equipment or changes to the animal's
overall environment or routine. A behavior modification plan may address the family dynamics in general... perhaps the family’s
reaction to your pet’s behavior, or the relationship between your pet and family. Repertoire employs our knowledge of the science
of ethology and the most current research regarding the human / animal relationship. At every point in the behavior modification
process we will try to formulate a plan that is do-able for your family situation.
Behavior plans may include some of the following:

STEP IV. IMPLEMENTING THE PLAN
|
Based on the amount of sessions you have purchased, we will meet with you to carry out your behavior modification plan, address
any issues that arise, answer any questions you have, show you training and handling techniques, and track your progress.
Throughout the sessions we are available by phone or email at any point respond to matters that occur or provide you with further
information. When appropriate, you will receive follow-up notes to sessions or logs to track your progress or perhaps emails
reiterating what was discussed in previous sessions... those kind of aids and benchmarks help keep the training on track.
